strange new pots

Here are some strange new shapes appearing in my workshop. It remains to be seen whether they will survive to be glazed or not, depending on what other shapes evolve to supplant them. They have some slight relationship to some of the Shigaraki pots I saw at Kanzaki Shiho’s and to Lucy Rie’s taller pots made in sections. What I wanted was a shape that changes profile more than my oval slab flasks and bottles, without being as stiff as the square and 3 sided bottles and flasks I have been making. I suppose watching Nic Collins and other wood-firers demonstrate at his recent weekend wood-firers’ event made me want my shapes to be more fluid.

its interesting that these pots are all looking quite good in their raw state - usually pots look pretty grim until they are glazed …. apart from freshly thrown ones.
