crystals

thick white frost early this morning with long crystals on the paddock gate.

I took the camera out at eight o’clock, while the sun was still low.

when the sun did arrive it made the crystals sparkle before melting them. the snowdrops and hellebores were all fainting, but they will stand up again as the temperature rises.

the lovely thing about the frost is the way it picks out things you don’t normally notice, or makes them look different. this wiggly hazel looks prettiest when its catkins are out.

and these dead sunflowers are left around over the winter to harbour insects, so the birds can feed, but with the frost on them they are more decorative.

the paddock looks beautiful, all shades of silver, soft purples and charcoals in the trees.
