Antonio told me they would use <em>encina<\/em>, evergreen oak, and\u00c2\u00a0 finish the firing\u00c2\u00a0 with gum cistus, <em>jara<\/em>, the incense scented shrub of the extremaduran <em>maquis. <\/em>the smell was wonderful, he said, with no real nostalgia for a laborious process<em>.<\/em> the back of this space is given over to clay preparation and storage, something I did not investigate, due to lack of time, and not wanting to disrupt their workday. the clay is local, from land they own about 3 km from the pueblo.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/janewheeler.co.uk\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/04\/a-kiln.jpg?ssl=1\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-full wp-image-2845\" title=\"a kiln\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/janewheeler.co.uk\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/04\/a-kiln.jpg?resize=400%2C300&#038;ssl=1\" alt=\"\" width=\"400\" height=\"300\" srcset=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/janewheeler.co.uk\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/04\/a-kiln.jpg?w=400&amp;ssl=1 400w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/janewheeler.co.uk\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2011\/04\/a-kiln.jpg?resize=300%2C225&amp;ssl=1 300w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 400px) 100vw, 400px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>moreno leon goes back seven generations in the family to the first whose name is known, in the late eighteenth century, but probably well before that. before continuing to coil the outside is scraped and smoothed with a piece of bamboo, then paddled with the ping-pong bat-shaped wooden paddle &#8211; there are at least three different shapes, concave, convex, and flat, beautiful objects in their own right.
